What? Wouldn't anyone be prepared to do almost anything to be free of their painful, swollen joints?
You would be surprised! When you tell people that they will have to make a big change to their diet, start exercising and start living a healthy lifestyle and then not except to be cured for several months, then you see why people really would NOT be prepared to do almost anything to free themselves of the pain and immobility of arthritis!
But for those who are actually willing to help themselves and take action, here is the basics of what needs to be done.
The Long Term Natural Remedy
The first change is to the diet. Few sufferers of arthritis have a squeaky clean, super healthy diet, which means most are eating way too much junk! The worst offenders are the ones you probably like the best. That includes all processed foods, all junk foods (hamburgers, fries, hot dogs, pizza etc), most takeaway meals and convenience food like sandwiches, buns, donuts etc.
It also includes most sweet foods, like cakes, cookies, pie, pastries, candy bars and chocolate! It means cutting down severely on red meat, dairy products, switching to skimmed milk and avoiding processed cold meats. It means drinking lots of plain water every day and absolutely No soda, not even the diet stuff. Avoid orange juice and anything that is excessively acidic.
The idea is to reduce the overall acidity of the body, which eating and drinking these things tends to increase.
Focus more on fresh fruits and vegetables, pulses, some nuts and seeds while increasing intake of foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as oily fish. A diet like the Mediterranean diet is a good one to follow for this condition as it promotes eating lots of fish, little meat and loads of salads, fresh veggies and lots of garlic, onions and olive oil.
